NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services

Most hospital Trusts in the South West provide training placements for preregistration trainee pharmacy technicians. A leaflet is available with details of the Training Scheme for Hospital Pharmacy Technicians pdf.gif (950 bytes) (Updated October 2012).

To become a qualified pharmacy technician, candidates undergo a two year training programme. This consists of work-related training and assessment in order to achieve a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Service skills, and a taught course - BTEC in Applied Sciences (Pharmacy) to cover the underpinning knowledge requirement, provided on a block release basis at Somerset College.

Entry requirements:

Normally 4 GCSE passes (grade C or above) or the BTEC first qualification in science, or equivalent qualifications are required. However, other entry qualifications may be acceptable for mature students and students with previous pharmacy experience.
